If you are in Banking profession or planning to choose Banking as a career option then you may have heard about the JAIIB and CAIIB Examination. JAIIB and CAIIB examinations are being conducted by Indian Institute of Banking and Finance(IIBF). The JAIIB and CAIIB exam is not open for the common candidates but it is open only to those who are already working in the banking and finance industry. You should make sure that your employer is a member of the Institute.
There are two attempts each year usually in the month of May and November. You need to obtain membership of IIBF in order to register for JAIIB and CAIIB. In one registration you get four attempts to pass one examination. If one is not able to pass the examination in these four attempts due to various reasons, then he/she has to re-register for the same as IIBF website.
Junior Associate of Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (JAIIB):
There are three subjects in JAIIB exam. These are:
(a) Principles & Practices of Banking
(b) Accounting & Finance for Bankers
(c) Legal & Regulatory Aspects of Banking
All the papers will carry for 100 marks and you will have to secure a minimum of 50 marks. You will be declared qualified, if you secure a minimum of 45 marks in each subject and 50 per cent in aggregate. However if you are not able secure aggregate 50 marks then you will be allowed to retain the credits of subjects where you have secured minimum 50 marks but this is restricted to only for four consecutive attempts and for the fifth attempt, you have to appear for all three subjects once again.
The JAIIB exam
usually has 120 questions that are MCQ form. Total marks for the exam is 100. JAIIB
exam is held in the online mode only. There is no provision of the negative
marking in the exam. The duration of the exam is 2 hours and the questions can
be attempted either in Hindi or in English language.
CertifiedAssociate of Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (CAIIB):
There are three subjects in CAIIB exam. These are:
(a) Advanced Bank Management
(b) Bank Financial Management
(c) One subject out of 11 elective subjects
- Corporate Banking
- Retail Banking
- Co-operative Banking
- Rural Banking
- International Banking
- Central Banking
- Information Technology
- Financial Advising
- Human Resources Management
- Risk Management
- Treasury Management
The CAIIB Examination consists of 100 questions in each of the papers for which 100 marks are allotted. The duration of each paper is 2 hours. Exam passing criteria remains the same as mention in case of JAIIB section above.
Benefit of Passing JAIIB and CAIIB exams:
If you are working as a clerk with a nationalized bank, you will receive one increment if you qualify in the JAIIB exam and on passing the CAIIB exam, you will receive two increments. If you are working as an officer with a nationalized bank, you will be entitled to one increment each upon passing the JAIIB and CAIIB exams conducted by the IIBF.

it will improve your knowledge and understanding of Banking and will
surely help in day to day work assigned to you or performed by you. You
will also get weightage in your all future promotions, postings etc.
I have cleared my JAIIB and CAIIB in first attempt with 60%+ marks. While I was preparing for the exams, I found the Books by Macmillan Education are very useful. Though the books are bulky at first site but trust me friends you only need to go through the books. If you just seriously go through the books just once, it is enough to pass the exam
